TRAVELING BY MASS TRANSPORT

If you're looking to travel to the Daytona 500 using mass transportation (rather than driving or flying), there are a few options to consider. While Daytona Beach is a popular destination, it can be a bit tricky to rely solely on public transportation, especially for such a large event. However, there are still ways to get there without driving. Here's an overview of your options:

Services to Daytona Beach

Greyhound and Megabus:

  • Greyhound and Megabus operate long-distance bus routes that connect various cities across the U.S. to Daytona Beach.
  • These buses typically have terminals in major cities like Orlando, Miami, Tampa, and Jacksonville, and can get you to Daytona Beach for a relatively affordable price.
  • Bus Station in Daytona Beach: The Greyhound terminal is located at 138 S. Ridgewood Ave, Daytona Beach, which is about 1.5 miles from the Daytona International Speedway. From there, you can take a taxi, rideshare, or local bus to the Speedway.

Local Bus Service

  • Votran is the public transportation system serving Volusia County, including Daytona Beach. Votran operates several local routes, but it may not be the most direct way to get to the Speedway from your hotel or the bus station on race day.
  • Votran does have special event shuttle services during large events like the Daytona 500. Make sure to check the schedule for any race-week services, which might be available from key points in Daytona Beach or nearby areas like Daytona Beach Shores.

Note: Public buses in Daytona Beach are less frequent on weekends or during special events, so you might want to check the schedules ahead of time.

Amtrak (Train)

Amtrak operates train service (tickets here) to Daytona Beach via the Sanford Amtrak Station (about 25 miles from Daytona Beach). However, this is not a direct route to the track itself and would require an additional mode of transportation like a bus or taxi.

  • Amtrak Station in Sanford: Located at 1001 East 1st Street, Sanford, FL.
  • From Sanford, you can take a local bus (Votran), taxi, or rideshare to Daytona Beach.
  • Duration: The train journey from cities like Orlando to Sanford is about 1 hour, but then you'll need extra time for the trip to Daytona.

Note: This is typically a slower and less direct option compared to driving or flying, but it’s still an option for those wanting to avoid highway driving.

Ridesharing (Uber and Lyft)

Ridesharing services like Uber operate in Daytona Beach. These app-based services offer a convenient alternative to traditional taxis, especially for groups or those seeking a more personalized travel experience.
